We've all had it that annoying persistent cough that has decided your body will be its permanent residence. It attacks you at meetings, it attacks you when you're sleeping, it even attacks you mid conversation. Here are my 3 Proven home remedies to help you beat that cough that refuses to go away.
**Please note garlic is very potent. You may smell like garlic for a while. But its your call get rid of the cough and smell like you were trying to keep vampires away or keep coughing and have everyone stare at you all day long asking you are you okay.
A spoonful of raw local honey with a squeeze of lemon works great especially during the spring and fall seasons. I however find that since this is attributed to those with spring/fall allergies it does not work as well in the other months. The reason raw, local honey is best compared to your grocery store honey is each area has specific allergens. Thus the local honey is tailored to those specific plants/flowers/and trees.
This tea is is one of my favorites for coughs and colds. Your body will thank you for this one. Take fresh (1/2 cup) garlic cloves, peeled, cut ginger (1 cup) , and cut a whole lemon in half, put it in your tea pot. I have a tea pot with an infuser already attached. It makes a huge difference with the strength of your tea. Boil and let tea seep in the goodness of the garlic, ginger, and lemon for at least 5 minutes. This gives it an opportunity to cool a little as well. Then add honey to taste.
Losing weight is definitely no easy task but it can be done with the right guidance. What I have found in my practice one of the major reasons why many patients fail at accomplishing their goal is they have a hard time turning down sugar. This is why there are so many people every year who flock to the gym after the holidays because they over indulged in sugar during the holiday season.
Sugar not only increases weight it also continues a terrible cycle of weight gain.
With the increase in cravings (usually for sugar) the cycle never stops. Thus the first step to starting a successful weight loss journey is you must detox your body of the foods that are keeping you from being the you, you love. This doesn't mean you will never have your mom's apple pie. It just takes this sugar craving from ruling your life. Check out the book below. It breaks down how you can successfully detox from sugar. Once this detox is complete, your body can absorb the necessary nutrients it needs. Act Now!
Car washed, vacuumed, wax done, oil change, alignment these are all things we do to take care of our beloved cars. So why do we make all the excuses in the book for something we are indefinitely stuck with, our bodies. Our bodies are with us through everything yet we many times feed it junk, refuse to give it exercise and keep it out of alignment. While when our body breaks down we attribute this breakdown to I guess I'm getting old. I am not saying as you age your body stays the same however I am saying you don't have to suffer in pain when there are solutions.
Those individuals that take the time to take care of their body has been proven to have a better quality of life. They are not hunched over at 80 or dying in pain. Why deal with pain when you don't have to. Chiropractic care can help with a huge range of problems. Some problems include: fibromyalgia, sinus issues, TMJ pain, pain during pregnancy, neck pain, back pain, plantar fascitis, extremity pain. Chiropractic care also helps your organ systems function better because it affects your nervous system. Since your nervous system is the control center when you are able to keep this system healthy the rest of your systems (such as digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular) can then function better as well.
Our goal at Journey Family Chiropractic is to get you to a healthier you. Your soon to be healthy body will thank you.
Several years ago the newest craze was juicing. I was so surprised at the traction juicing fruits and vegetables was getting. So what is juicing. Juicing is the process in which you take fruits and vegetables and transform them into juice. If you are trying to give the gut a break then this may work for you, if it is just a day to a few days. Juicing although can be beneficial in short spurts, it is not suggested for long term nutrition. You should also combine fruits and vegetables with your juicing because juicing only fruit can spike your blood sugar. The disadvantage of juicing is it removes many of the nutrients plus the insoluble fiber that the fruits and vegetables provide. These nutrients and fiber helps our body stay regular.
So what about good ole blending. Blending is perfect for those who want to keep all the nutrients. It breaks down the fruits and vegetables without removing the essential nutrients and fiber in it. With the fiber intact blending allows you to stay full longer and keeps your digestive system regular.
At our home everyone drinks a smoothie daily. The trick to having a healthy green smoothie is add more vegetables than fruit. My favorite smoothie recipe is:
2 cups of Spinach
1 cup of Kale
1 whole carrot
1/2 cup Silken tofu
1 whole avocado
1 3/4 cup of water
Blend, and ENJOY!!
Ps. Wondering what kind of blender to use. This blender has not let me down.

-A subluxation is a slight misalignment in a joint. When a joint is subluxated especially near the cervical region it can cause tension headaches.
Remedy: Chiropractic care
3. TMJ subluxation
-TMJ (Temporomandibular joint) is the joint that connects your temporal bone and mandible. This joint is often subluxated with chewing, dental procedures, grinding teeth, plus much more.
Remedy: Chiropractic care: At my practice we adjust the TMJ placing the joint back in place, which in turn can diminish the headache.
4. Sinus Headache
-Sinus headaches are caused by inflammation of the sinuses that causes congestion.
Remedy: Chiropractic care: At my practice we adjust the sinuses to clear the nasal passages which then reduces the congestion thus relieving the headache.
Q: Why should I go to a chiropractor after a fall or accident?
A: When you have trauma your body goes into a protect then heal mode. If you have a misaligned vertebrae or joint it is difficult for the bone to heal effectively. A chiropractor can align the spine and joints so the body can heal properly.
Q: I have no pain, should I still get adjusted?
A: Yes, if you have a misalignment, your body is not able to communicate to your brain that something is wrong.
Q: How soon should I get adjusted after a fall or accident?
A: As soon as humanly possible. The sooner you get care the faster your body can heal.
Q: Do I need to pay anything up front for my personal injury (auto accident/slip and fall) case?
A: No, At Journey Family Chiropractic we do not charge our patients up front for their care. Once treatment is completed and the case is settled payment will be addressed through the attorney or insurance company.
Auto accidents, slips, and falls are not always avoidable. However, you can save yourself future pain and problems by receiving chiropractic care. Chiropractic care will help restore your health pre-accident. Allow chiropractic care to get you back to enjoying life again.
It is 2018 and many of us are creating our New Year's resolution. Whether it is financial goals, personal goals, or family goals. One thing that should remain a constant goal is creating a healthy you. Without a healthy mind, body, and spirit it can be difficult to accomplish any goal in the new year.
Chiropractic patients benefit from decrease pain, increase mobility, improved immune system and much more. How does chiropractic work to do this? Chiropractors affect the system that controls everything in our body, this system is the nervous system.
The nervous system is one of the first systems to develop in a human fetus. It is the most important system in our body, because it is the boss. When a chiropractor adjusts the spine it allows the spine and brain to freely communicate without any interruptions.
Think of it this way imagine you are driving down a bumpy road and there are many turns, then imagine driving down a road that is just a straight smooth road. Which road would you be able to get down faster? Of course the latter, the straight smooth road, right. Your body works the same way. When you have these bumps in your spine, it takes your brain a longer time to be notified on what is going on in your body. Thus you may get sick easier, or you may stay sick longer than you should. Chiropractors gently align the spine and joints, so your body can function at its best.
Place your health as a top priority this year, before you no longer have any options.

It's spring and many of us are having the cough attacks, sneezing, itchy runny nose and eyes. When all the male gametes want to do is find them as many special ladies to fertilize, we humans complain of our plight. All joking aside. This season definitely comes with the good and the bad for many of us. Below I have completed my top 5 natural allergy remedies in no particular order. Enjoy
1. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
I know it's not the most pleasant taste but I assure you it helps. Mix 1 tablespoon of organic raw ACV with a tablespoon of lemon, and a spoonful of honey with a cup of water at least three times per day during allergy season.
Where can I get ACV?
Most local supermarkets carry it.
2. Nettle Leaf Tea
Nettle leaves have anti-inflammatory properties that helps treat allergy symptoms. If you have any medical condition consult with your physician before using Nettle because it is a powerful herb.
Where can I get Nettle?
I buy my nettle tea leaves here. This brand is 100% organic.
3. Use a Neti Pot
Make a saline solution using distilled water (free of chlorine and flouride which can irritate your sinuses) and sea salt and add it to your pot. Use it in the morning and at night to remove the irritants in your nose.
Where can I get a neti pot?
This is the neti pot that I use. What is great about this brand is it comes with everything needed to cleanse your nasal passages.
4. Use Essential Oils
Essential oils or a great way to clear up nasal passages and relieve congestion. A few of my favorites for allergies are peppermint oil, tea tree oil, and eucalyptus oil. I like to put a few drops in a diffuser and spray down my home during allergy season. I've also add a few drops to coconut oil and rubbed it on my son's chest and feet when he's congested.
Where can I get essential oils?
Some essential oils are sold at many grocery stores but I recommend getting good quality essential oils from brands such as doTERRA and Young living.
5. Get Adjusted
Chiropractic care will allow your nervous system to function optimally. And since your nervous system controls everything in your body, it will allow your immune system to function optimally as well.
Where can I find a chiropractor?
We are everywhere or almost at least. I am located at 320 Prospect Place, Alpharetta, GA 30005.
A car accident is a traumatic event for your body. External forces transfers energy into your body which then creates injuries. The most common injury is whiplash injury. With whiplash injuries the neck is forced into hyperextension then hyperflexion. This motion can create ligament damage and muscle strain. Sprains/strains can take 6-8 weeks to heal with proper care. Other injuries include neck pain, back pain, headaches, radiating pain, shoulder pain and much more. After an auto accident it may take 24-72 hours for you to feel pain. It is important to seek care as soon as possible after an accident to prevent further injury. Sometimes you may not feel the pain from an accident right away. For some it could take days, weeks, even months before the effects of an accident surfaces. This is why it is important to seek care immediately after an accident. A chiropractor can assess all the injuries and treat them appropriately.
At Journey Family Chiropractic every auto accident may be different, but we treat each patient as family. Our goal is to get you out of pain and keep you out of pain. Then get you as close as possible to your pre-accident case.
